The Dallas Opera has announced the winners of the National Vocal Competition. Baritone Navasard Hakobyan took first place.
The Armenian singer is a Butler Studio Artist at the Houston Grand Opera and won first prize in the 2022 Eleanor McCollum Competition. He performed with the Houston Grand Opera in Madama Butterfly, La Traviata, The Marriage of Figaro, and many others.
In 2018, Hakobyan joined the young artists program of the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater in Yerevan. The following year he became a laureate of the Youth Prize of the President of the Republic of Armenia. Prior to the Arias Concerto, also known as the Eleanor McCollum Young Singer Competition, Hakobyan's other successes on the international stage came at the José Carreras Grand Prix in Moscow and the Premiere Opera Foundation International Vocal Competition.
