A former employee of Kanye West (Ye) accused the rap mogul of threatening staff and students at his private Christian school Donda Academy, Business Insider reports.
This is just the latest in a series of lawsuits filed by former Donda Academy employees whose allegations range from “absolutely egregious” and unsafe conditions on campus to inappropriate behavior and “unlawful educational practices.”
Trevor Phillips, who worked for Ye at both his fashion brand Yeezy and at the unaccredited school from November 2022 to August 2023, alleges in the 47-page lawsuit that, in addition to creating a hostile work environment by threatening and sexually harassing staff, West regularly compared himself to Hitler.
Despite publicly apologizing for his remarks, West's anti-Semitic comments and praise of Hitler continued, sometimes within earshot of students, he said.
Phillips witnessed Kanye tell his employees on several occasions that "the Jews are out to get me" and "the Jews are stealing all my money."
Also, he openly discussed how he "only likes dating white women." “Kanye then told the two students that he wanted them to shave their heads and that he intended to create a prison at the school—and that they could be locked in cages,” the lawsuit states.
Phillips, a black man, alleged in the complaint that West regularly discriminated against black school employees, including Phillips himself, behaved erratically at work, misappropriated school funds for a trip to Paris, and frequently threatened to fire employees.
On one occasion, during a dinner at the upscale sushi restaurant Nobu, West simulated masturbation and graphically described his sex life in the midst of what Phillips believed was a business meeting about the horticulture program at Donda Academy, the plaintiff alleges.
“In addition to other repeated attacks against Jews, Kanye began making threats against the LGBT community. “Gays are not true Christians,” West is quoted as saying in the lawsuit. “Gays are being controlled by Bill Gates to prevent them from having children for birth control.”
According to the complaint, Phillips broke down due to Kanye's inhumane treatment and months of harassment, racism, sexual harassment, and anti-Semitic remarks.
“Although Kanye believed himself to be a god or king, in reality he was a hot-tempered tyrant and despot who sought to mentally destroy and control those around him,” the complaint states.
Phillips is seeking $35,000 in damages and an injunction to prevent West from owning or operating any educational schools for children under 18 in California.
