OJ Simpson has died. The 76-year-old actor, who was accused of murdering his ex-wife, passed away surrounded by his family at his home in Las Vegas.
“On April 10, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, passed away after a battle with cancer, surrounded by his children and grandchildren,” his family announced on microblog X. Simpson was battling prostate cancer and undergoing chemotherapy.
Simpson became one of America's most notorious figures after he was charged in 1994 with the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her boyfriend Ron Goldman. He was later acquitted thanks to his lawyers Robert Kardashian and Johnnie Cochran.
Simpson, a former football running back who played 11 seasons for the Buffalo Bills, reinvented himself as an actor before the murders of Brown and Goldman.
Although he was found not guilty of the murders, his reputation was forever damaged, and the latter part of his career was marked by a series of dubious ventures.
Earlier this year, the former sports star was photographed several times while walking around his Las Vegas neighborhood.
