Johnny Depp is eyeing a medieval castle in rural Italy, hoping to buy it for $4 million, reports The New York Post.
The castle in Montalto Dora Depp was shown by actor Riccardo Scamarcio, who plays the main role in the biopic about the artist Amedeo Modigliani, which Depp is directing.
The 22,000 sq ft fortress, complete with 11 bedrooms and a chapel dating back to the 15th century, was recently put up for sale after reportedly undergoing a lengthy restoration process.
But Mayor Montalto Dora expressed concerns about Depp buying it. "A celebrity buying a historical monument like Montalto Dora Castle would bring a lot of attention to the area, but we're not sure if that would be the right 'economic synergy' for the community," Renzo Galletto told the Post. He said the property is being sold privately and the town of 3,300 will remain “absolutely neutral to any sale of the property.”
