On July 1, world-renowned French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour will perform on the stage of Centrale del Tennis in Rome, Italy. Aznavour has traveled to the Italian capital city within the framework of his new concerts and, subsequently, he will head for Moscow, La Repubblica reported.
The 90-year-old singer spoke about his musical career, political interests, and the fight for human rights.“I continue to sing, since leaving music had taken me to the threshold of death. I intend to live 120 years, and I will continue to sing the whole time.
“I always perform my Comme ils disent [As They Say] song—written at the age of 72—about homosexuals, wherewith I pay tribute to my five of homosexual friends, who no longer live.
“And as for whether or not I will sing this song in Moscow because I know that [Russian President Vladimir] Putin is against homosexuality, I should say that if they directly ask me not sing that song, I will think that I’m the ambassador of Armenia and I don’t want to create problems for Armenia. I will think [about it] until the last moment, but perhaps they will forget to ask me about it,” Charles Aznavour specifically stated.
