The Miss Azerbaijan 2014 beauty pageant was held recently and Javidan Gurbanova was crowned Miss Azerbaijan 2014.   

Subsequently, however, rumors spread that Gurbanova was subject to a criminal prosecution on charges of hooliganism.   Everything was exposed when she was to go and represent Azerbaijan at the Miss Universe 2014 pageant, Haqqin.az reported.

The beauty with a criminal past was not allowed to leave the country as she has a conditional conviction.  Farid Mansurov, who had studied with Gurbanova at the Belarusian State University, told Haqqin.az the details of this scandal. Mansurov noted that he and Gurbanova had a very close relationship until May 31, 2011.

On that day, however, they had argued and Gurbanova had hit Mansurov in the eye.  “I had to stay in hospital for five days. My family went to the police, but the investigation of this case was not submitted. 

“We petitioned to the [Azerbaijan] minister of interior and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation on this matter. “Subsequently, the case was sent to the regional police. The case was completed in 2013; she [Gurbanova] was sentenced to a four-year forced labor,” Farid Mansurov specifically said.   

But he added that he and his family are dissatisfied with this decision and that they will appeal this ruling.
