It’s impossible to confuse Armenian-American jewelry designer Marianna Harutunian’s works with someone else’s, and it’s this uniqueness that often makes the world-known celebrities, like Beyonce, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopes, Nicki Minaj, Cara Delevingne and others turn to her when they want to shoot a new music video or appear on the red carpet. NEWS.am STYLE always covers these collaborations to its readers. Today we represent our new interview with the designer for our ArmenՅԱՆs column.
Hard work and determination- this is what Marianna thinks are the clue to success.
«My motto is never to give up no matter how hard of a project. I always say ‘yes’ to a project and then figure out how to perfect it. That’s been something I carry from generations of determined Armenian ancestors. It means a lot to me to make my people proud», says the designer.
According to Marianna, sometimes it’s all about luck and meeting the right people.
"In this business, it’s really word of mouth. Also getting noticed from my work has helped. Being myself doing my own thing, I never look at my competition I just create things, I don’t see and wish to see them on people. It was a struggle in the beginning and also sometimes even now it has its ups and downs but doing what I love keeps me going," she said.
As for her clients, they love listening to Marianna’s stories about Armenia. The designer sometimes even tries to teach them Armenian words.
"In Los Angeles, there is a large Armenian community and many of them work in the fashion industries, so most of my clients either have friends that are Armenian or worked with them. We are everywhere! I even teach some of them the language or tell them where the best spots are for khorovats [bbq].
I always try to reach out about our history and struggles of Armenia past and present. I’ve even had clients of other nationalities reach out to show support by even marching with us at our annual gatherings for April 24th. It really gives me hope that there are people that support our cause and want to learn about our history," she noted.
