Tigran Hamasyan gave a concert in Yerevan today. He is not just a jazzman. Hamasyan is an Armenian music brand that can be safely put on a par with world’s great cultural figures.
After all, it was Hamasyan who succeeded in bringing Armenian jazz music to the world stage, making it recognizable and, most importantly, interesting not only for fans of jazz, but also music lovers in general. His works are diverse: they combine jazz, jazz rock, ethnic motives, classics, and sacred music ...
Hamasyan was playing in the Aram Khachaturian hall together with a special guest Ben Wendel, famous Canadian-American jazz saxophonist, composer and member of Grammy winning Kneebody band.
Hamasyan performed works from almost all his albums. There were also compositions from “For Gyumri” collection which was released in spring. This album which is a kind of an autobiography, is Hamasyan’s “thank you” to his native city, childhood, family ... Incredibly touching, somehow tragic and, at the same time Gyumri-style colorful album is well known to music lovers, and the live performance astonished the public even more.
NEWS.am STYLE correspondent attended the concert which was nothing but a fest organized by Hamasyan and Wendel, and is sharing the most striking photo episodes of the evening.
