Jamie Davis, one of the most famous jazz vocalists in the US, will give a concert with the Armenian State Jazz Orchestra (conductor and artistic director Armen Hyusnunts) on April 5 in Yerevan. Jamie Davis is one of the greatest jazz vocalists in the US.
The boy was the youngest among seven children. The music influence was strong in their family as both his parents were musicians, while brothers and sisters sang in the church choir. So to become the musician for Jamie Davis was something given. Jamie Davis told NEWS.am STYLE about his path and revealed that his idols were and still is his father and Martin Luther King. According to him, he is very religious so his parents at first were cautious of his professional choice.
At the age of 13, Jamie Davis arranged his own jazz band, the guys played spirituals and early rhythm and blues. Over the years, he became an icon of classic American jazz being called Jamie "the chocolate-voiced baritone” or “the sugar voice".
In 1975, Jamie settled in San Francisco to actively cooperate with Milt Jackson, Eddie Henderson, Dave Lieberman, Melba Moore, Allen Smith, Vernon Alley, Pharoah Saunders and others. In 2000, Jamie Davies had its famous performance with the Count Basie Orchestra in Davis and won the highest praise and well-deserved public recognition.
Asked to comment on the most valuable reward of his life, he told us: “I'm about spreading Love everywhere I go, looking forward to doing just that.” The famous jazz singer also revealed his first contacts with Armenians. “I've done shows for Armenians in Moscow. I was invited and attended private parties at there homes and we broke bread together,” he said.
