US federal jury ruled Katy Perry to pay rapper Marcus Gray $ 2.78 million in compensation for stealing a beat, USA Today reported.
It is noted that most of this amount will pay the Perry’s label Capitol Records. The singer will have to pay 550 thousand dollars in damages.
Earlier, the jury ruled when creating the song, Perry copied the Joyful Noise’s song of rapper Marcus Gray and his co-authors. The Dark Horse song for four weeks headed the Billboard chart and brought Perry the Grammy music award.
Gray's lawyers said the controversial song brought Capitol Records $ 31 million and demanded compensation of $ 20 million.
