The Los Angeles Times has released an investigation into the financial schemes of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which conducts the annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony.

According to the newspaper, the size of 87 HFPA members' fees most likely contradicts US law.

For the current fiscal year, which ends in June 2021, HFPA has allocated $ 2.15 million to its members. More than 20 people were reported to have received $ 3,465 in January for watching foreign films; besides, travel committee members earn $ 2,310 a month, archives committee members - $ 2,200, festival committee members - $ 1,100, and history committee members - $ 1,000.

The article also mentions press conference moderators - they make $ 1,200 every month. And website postings totaled $ 585,000 in the last fiscal year.

Besides, the HFPA pays generously to those on the board. Five of its members received from $ 63,433 to 135,957 in the tax year that ended on June 30, 2019. During the same period, the heads of the board of directors earned from $ 22,915 to $ 78,079.

Speaking to Variety, a source close to the HFPA suggested that its members receive bonuses for services that are beyond their mandate.

The 78th Golden Globe Awards will take place on March 1.
