Daily Telegraph journalist loses her job because of racist jokes about  Meghan Markle's daughter

12:34, June 9

Julie Burchill, a reporter for the reputable British newspaper Daily Telegraph, reported on Facebook that she was fired from her job after she left comments on Twitter about the name of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's newborn daughter, Lilibet Diana, who was born in the United States on June 4.

Julie noted that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex missed the opportunity to name the girl Georgina Floydina - alluding to the African American George Floyd, who was killed by police during his arrest in May this year. Floyd's death sparked massive protests in the U.S. and abroad, launching the Black Lives Matter movement for the rights of blacks.

Julie Burchill, who lives in Brighton, deleted her Twitter account after making the comment about the Sussexes' second child

The joke was considered racist by the newspaper management, where 61-year-old writer Burchill worked for five years, writing her own column.

“It’s been a lovely five years, and I’ll always be grateful to them for ending my Wilderness Years,” Burchill, who goes by Julie Raven on Facebook, said in a post that notably did not contain any apology.

“However, I’d be lying if I said that I hadn’t often moaned to my husband recently about them always rejecting my edgy column ideas and giving me more pedestrian ones - which I’ve done splendidly anyway,” she said. “I hope you can see my archive here. Onwards and upwards!”
