Today we’ll talk about Rob Marshall 's 2011 movie “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.”

1.The film is based on the novel by Tim Powers "In unknown Waves" (On Stranger Tides, 1987), published in Russia in 2011 under the title "On Strange Shores".

2.Gore Verbinski, the director of the previous three parts of the franchise, refused the director's chair. He was replaced by Rob Marshall.

3.Johnny Depp agreed to star in the film before the script was even written.

4.Penelope Cruz's understudy was her sister Monica Cruz.

5.During the filming of the film, Penelope Cruz was pregnant.

6.Johnny Depp spent more than $60,000 on jackets for the film crew to protect them from the cold weather.

7.The ship of the Black Beard - "Queen Anne's Revenge" - is the same galleon that used to be the "Black Pearl".

8."Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strange Shores" was the first film of the franchise, shot using Disney Digital 3D ™ technology, and the first film completely shot on a three-dimensional Red 3D camera.

9.The film was shot on five different islands: Hawaiian Kauai and Oahu, in Puerto Rico, in Palominito and in the UK.

10.In the film there is a real-life character - the pirate Blackbeard. In 2010, archaeologists found a pirate's saber from the sunken flagship "Queen Anne's Revenge".

11.With a budget of $250 million, the film grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.
