A piece of fruit cake from the wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles, which took place on July 29, 1981, is for sale, The New York Post writes.
The dessert was saved by wedding guest Nigel Ricketts, who died earlier this year. Now the piece of cake in its signature box is set to go under the hammer at a Dore and Rees Auctions auction in the United Kingdom. Presumably, the starting price will start at $339, but the cake can be sold for many times more.
Twenty-three official cakes were made for the wedding of Charles III and Princess Diana. This piece was most likely taken from the center fruit cake, which consisted of 5 tiers. In 2014, a piece of the same cake sold for $1,375.
Dore and Rees also intend to auction off a thank you note written by Charles III and sent out to royal staff at the time of the wedding.
