It will be competed by the drama comedy "Rise" by Cedric Klapisch, the police comedy "The Innocent" by Louis Garrel, the thriller "The Night of the 12th" and the drama "Pacifiction" by Albert Serra.

Traditionally, the award for best foreign picture will also be presented as part of the film awards. This year's shortlist also includes five films: "The Beasts" by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, "Close" by Belgian director Lukas Dhont, Tarik Saleh’s “Cairo Conspiracy," "Ia" by Jerry Skolimowski’s “EO,” Ruben Ostlund’s “Triangle of Sadness.”

As in previous years, awards will also be given to the best actors, the best costume designers, composers and sound directors. "The Innocent" has the most nominations, "The Night of the 12th" has ten nominations. The films "Rise" and "Pacifiction" each received nine nominations. Rounding out the top five is the dramatic comedy "The Almond Tree" with seven nominations.

The so-called honorary "Cesar," which is awarded for outstanding achievements in world cinematography, this year goes to American director David Fisher.
