Charlie Thomas, who was known for such R&B hits as There Goes My Baby and the Under the Boardwalk, has passed away at the age of 85.
Thomas devoted more than 60 years to preserving the band's music for future generations. For the rest of her days, he stayed with the Drifters, the band that started their first hits in the late 1950s, to the version with which he toured until a pandemic closed the concert cycle.
As with most bands of that era, the lineup changed over the decades, and splinter bands claimed to be the rightful heirs of the original band. Thomas ended his career performing with the Charlie Thomas Wanderers.
