Jacques Audiard's musical "Emilia Perez," about a Mexican drug lord who undergoes gender reassignment surgery, topped the list of nominees for the 82nd Golden Globes, garnering 10 nominations and beating out other contenders.

The drama about a young Donald Trump, "The Apprentice," also received nominations for its two leads: Sebastian Stan as Trump, and Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn. The US president-elect, however, called "The Apprentice" a "politically disgusting hack job" made by "human scum."

Netflix, which acquired "Emilia Perez" after its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, led all studios in both film (13) and television (23) nominations.

“Emilia Perez”—a drug thriller, Broadway musical, and trans drama—earned nominations for three of its stars: Carla Sofia Gascon, Zoe Saldanha, and Selena Gomez. No comedy or musical has ever received more Golden Globe nominations.

Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist” earned seven nominations, including best picture, drama, and acting nods for Adrien Brody and Guy Pearce.

A24 trailed Netflix slightly in the film categories, with 12 nominations overall, including best actor for Hugh Grant’s darkest performance yet in the horror film “The Heretic.” Grant thanked directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods “for recognizing his need to kill” in a statement. It’s followed by Edward Berger’s “Conclave,” starring Ralph Fiennes as a cardinal tasked with presiding over the conclave to elect a new pope. It received six nominations, including best picture, drama, and acting.

Sean Baker’s “Anora,” starring Mikey Madison as a Brooklyn sex worker who marries the son of a Russian oligarch, was nominated for five awards, including best picture, comedy, or musical, as well as best actress (Madison) and best supporting actor (Yura Borisov).

Best drama film nominees: The Brutalist; A Complete Unknown; Conclave; Dune: Part Two; Nickel Boys; September 5.

Best musical or comedy nominees: Wicked; Anora; Emilia Pérez; Challengers; A Real Pain; The Substance.
