Gossip Girl actress Michelle Trachtenberg has died at the age of 39. She may have suffered complications from a liver transplant, police sources told ABC News.

Trachtenberg was found dead in her New York apartment near Columbus Circle. Her mother discovered her body. Police are ruling it a natural death.

Sources told TMZ that the actress had been struggling with alcohol problems.

An autopsy will be performed by the medical examiner's office to determine the exact cause of death.

Michelle Trachtenberg had a liver transplant shortly before her death. Sources told the New York Post that her body may have rejected the transplanted liver.

Trachtenberg was best known for her role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She played Buffy's younger sister Dawn Summers in 66 episodes of the hit show.
