13:13 25 April, 2025YouTube has turned 20, and more than 20 billion videos have been uploaded to it to date.
April 23, 2025 marks 20 years since the first YouTube video was posted: “Me at the Zoo,” a 19-second clip filmed by co-founder Jawed Karim in front of the elephant exhibit at the San Diego Zoo.
To celebrate its 20th anniversary, YouTube shared new stats, and previewed several upcoming features.
On average, more than 20 million videos are uploaded to YouTube every day—as of March 2025, it reported.
In 2024, YouTube users left an average of more than 100 million comments on videos every day, and creators “like” comments from an average of 10 million viewers per day. Last year, YouTube videos averaged more than 3.5 billion likes per day from users.
Additionally, more than 300 music videos on YouTube have now reached 1 billion views—a group they’ve dubbed the Billionaire Views Club. The five fastest music videos to reach that milestone are: Adele’s “Hello” (88 days); Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” and Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito ft. Daddy Yankee” (tied at 97 days); J Balvin & Willy William’s “Mi Gente” (103 days); and Rosé & Bruno Mars’ “APT” (105 days).
Also, YouTube announced several new features:
In the “next few weeks,” YouTube TV subscribers will be able to create their own multi-view featuring curated non-sports content—starting with a small group of popular channels and expanding in the coming months.
YouTube will introduce the ability to create “voice replies” to video comments later this year.
YouTube's Ask Music feature creates a personalized radio station based on the type of music you like. It is available on iOS and Android for all YouTube Premium and YouTube Music users.
YouTube is planning to launch a new TV experience this summer, promising easier navigation, playback, quality settings, and easier access to comments, channel information, and subscriptions.
