This year’s highly anticipated “Tailored for You” dress code was inspired by the Costume Institute’s companion exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which explores the history of Black dandyism.
This year marked the first time the Met Gala had a menswear-focused dress code, forcing designers to rethink tailoring traditions for their female clients. The red carpet was filled with exaggerated suits, from the wide shoulders of Marc Jacobs’ 1980s-inspired Doja Cat blazer to the wide-lapeled jackets worn by everyone from actress Tessa Thompson to rapper Doechii.
