22:18 27 May, 2025Any designer will tell you that bringing an apparently impossible idea to life is not just a product of imagination, but the result of collaboration with master craftsmen of the highest caliber. This very concept — from craftsmanship to boundless creativity — is at the heart of Louis Vuitton’s new high jewelry collection, Virtuosity, unveiled in a spectacular show at the Gothic Bellver Castle on the Spanish island of Mallorca, reports WWD.
“Craftsmanship is the cornerstone of all our divisions, and our high jewelry line is a perfect example,” said Pietro Beccari, CEO of Louis Vuitton. “Our clients have always sought exceptional jewelry, and increasingly turn to our atelier on Place Vendôme for bespoke pieces, where they can select from carefully curated stones, including unique diamonds cut in the Monogram shape.”

The first chapter of the collection features 110 pieces, divided into two thematic sections: the World of Craftsmanship and the World of Creativity. Models showcased the collection in specially designed looks by Louis Vuitton women’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquière.
In the World of Craftsmanship, the brand explores Louis Vuitton’s heritage through seven themes related to knowledge and craft. The World of Creativity offers a more abstract and emotional interpretation, where light and form play a key role. Aesthetically, the collection combines graphic boldness, expressiveness, and protective elements, recalling the work of Francesca Amfitheatrof, who stepped down as artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s jewelry division in March.

Special attention is given to the rarest stones, which serve as focal points of the pieces. For example, a black Australian opal with red flashes takes center stage in the Savoir necklace. The 30.56-carat stone originally had a triangular shape, which designers chose to preserve. “One must respect the opal — it is one of the oldest minerals, like diamonds and natural zircon. We do not sacrifice what took billions of years to form for the sake of design,” explained Louis Vuitton’s head of precious stones sourcing.
Complementing the opal are emeralds from Zambia and design elements referencing the LV logo and the metal corners of the brand’s signature trunks.

The true pinnacle of craftsmanship is the transformable Apogée necklace, composed of two parts and three wearing options. The centerpiece is an emerald weighing over 30 carats from Brazil, hailed by jewelers as a “true miracle of nature.”
The collection also includes new versions of Louis Vuitton’s iconic collar necklaces, combining signature motifs with fresh ideas. These feature Damier pattern reinterpretations, floral elements, Cuban-style chains, and a new symbolic eye design representing all-seeing yet benevolent knowledge.
A special place is reserved for men’s jewelry under the Keeper line — from rings to massive chains inspired by trunks and the signature V shape. The centerpiece is a sapphire weighing over 10 carats from Sri Lanka and a chrysoberyl brooch known as the “cat’s eye.”

In the World of Creativity section, forms become bolder and more organic. For instance, the Joy necklace uses intertwined golden threads set with precious stones ranging from 10 to 41 carats, resembling caramel.
Other themes include Florescence — four-row necklaces featuring indigo tourmalines and rubellites — and Aura, where the signature Monogram flower is framed in gold and pink tourmalines, including bi-color stones with gradients visible from different angles. “We chose not to emphasize the boundary between colors but to blend them, enhancing the effect with a diamond cut,” explained the house’s gemologist.

The collection’s final highlight is the Eternal Sun theme — the embodiment of the philosophy “stone comes first.” The piece includes about 60 carats of yellow diamonds, including 27 vivid stones from the Zimmi mines in Sierra Leone. The necklace’s design is built around a spiral structure, creating the illusion of “floating” stones — the metal is nearly invisible.
