Butt Tattoos: The hottest new celebrity ink trend

When it comes to choosing the “sexiest” spot for a tattoo, many people are looking lower than ever before. If the infamous “tramp stamp” — that lower-back tattoo everyone got in the ’90s — once ruled, ink is now sliding even further down. Welcome to the rise of butt tattoos.

Celebrities have been fueling this trend for a while. Mel B, Halsey, and Olivia Wilde all have their own secret ink on their behinds. Fifty Shades of Grey cinematographer Seamus McGarvey even told The New York Times that he had to find a “butt double” for Dakota Johnson because of her intimate tattoos!

These tattoos come in all sizes and styles: Halsey has the word “HOPELESS” on her left cheek, Olivia Wilde sports a dragon on her right, and Cardi B turned her backside into a giant colorful canvas.

Why is butt ink suddenly so popular?

First, it’s a hidden zone — perfect for anyone who wants a flirty secret they don’t have to show every day. Second, the placement adds a touch of playful mystery: a tattoo on your butt is like a private little secret only the people you choose ever get to see.

As one woman on TikTok put it: “It’s my favorite tattoo — and no one ever sees it.”

On TikTok, videos of friends going to tattoo parlors together to get their husbands’ names inked on their butts are going viral. One guy even shared in the comments that he tattooed an actual “bite mark” from his wife — a literal imprint of her teeth.

And it’s not just women jumping on the trend: Hilary Duff’s husband, Matthew Koma, dedicated one of his butt cheeks to his wife by tattooing her name there. He joked on Instagram, “Good luck arguing with your wife when her name’s tattooed on your butt.”

Tattoo artists say the trend is part of a bigger movement: women reclaiming once-stigmatized body art. Butt tattoos are like the new “tramp stamp” — but even bolder and more intimate.

“Back in the day, lower-back tattoos highlighted the curves of the spine and were tied to seductive feminine power,” says tattoo artist Alessandro Melas. “Now, women are taking that idea further with placements that are even more hidden, personal, and sexy.”

So, if you’ve been dreaming of some fresh ink but don’t want it on full display, now you know: your booty might just be the hottest spot for a secret tattoo in 2025.
