14:23 17 July, 2025Lauren Sánchez’s lavish wedding to Jeff Bezos in Venice was nothing short of extraordinary — and her choice of everyday accessories was just as opulent. During the multi-day celebrations and various public appearances, the newly-minted Mrs. Bezos was frequently seen carrying the ultra-rare and stunningly expensive Hermès Kelly Midas handbag.

“The Kelly Midas is inspired by the legend of King Midas, who could turn everything he touched into gold. The bag seems to carry that mythical touch — its handle is crafted from genuine 18-karat gold, as is the hardware. It literally glows, as if Midas himself had just laid a hand on it,” explains luxury accessories expert Daniel Englander from Fashionphile.
The classic Kelly model first debuted in the 1930s, but this “golden” version was only released recently — in 2023. The price for the calfskin leather version starts at around $115,000, while the exotic crocodile leather model — like Sánchez’s — retails for about $170,000 at Hermès boutiques.
However, such rare creations are reserved exclusively for Hermès VIP clientele. For everyone else, the only option is the resale market, where prices for exotic versions can soar to $250,000 or more. “The rarity only drives demand and pushes the price higher,” Englander told Page Six.

Sánchez, who already owns multiple iconic Birkin bags and a rare Kelly Cut, is likely among the fortunate few who were able to purchase this masterpiece directly from the brand.
According to experts, the combination of exotic leather and real gold has become one of the most striking symbols of ultra-luxury in recent years. And while Sánchez’s bag is already a masterpiece, even rarer versions exist — the most coveted being one with an 18-karat white gold handle encrusted with diamonds, considered the pinnacle of Hermès craftsmanship and the ultimate dream for collectors.
