Qatar’s Emir may acquire Silvio Berlusconi’s legendary “Palace of Wonders” for $600 Million

Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, one of the world’s wealthiest and most influential figures, is reportedly eyeing the legendary Villa Certosa on Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda. The opulent estate, once owned by former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, could fetch $600 million — a perfect addition to the Emir’s $500 million superyacht, Al Lusail.

This isn’t just another marble palace or floating residence. Villa Certosa, often called the “Palace of Wonders” in Porto Rotondo, overlooks Marinella Bay and offers a staggering 4,500 m² of living space, including 126 rooms, multiple bungalows, and a sprawling 120-hectare park, reports La Nuova Sardegna. The property was put on the market two years ago by Berlusconi’s children.

The villa’s features are straight out of a fantasy: an artificial volcano that “erupts” lava, a Greco-Roman amphitheater, five swimming pools, mirrored lakes, a golf course, helipad, football field, and a secret sea cave with direct ocean access. Rumor has it there’s even a bunker — a standard for billionaires turning homes into fortresses.

Over decades, Villa Certosa has hosted VIP gatherings and receptions for influential figures from around the globe. With Berlusconi gone, his children decided to sell the estate — a property of this scale seemingly deserves a royal-level owner.

Sheikh Tamim looks like the ideal candidate. As the head of one of the wealthiest families in the world (Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund is estimated at $335 billion), he has long admired Sardinia. Reports say that during a recent visit, his superyacht Al Lusail was spotted off the coast of San Teodoro, and the Sheikh stayed temporarily at the famous Villa H2O in Puntaldia — possibly scouting for his own “Palace of Wonders.”
