20:55 8 September, 2025Marko Monroe, known online as the “Labubu designer,” was one of the first stars on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, unveiling his latest creation: “Moonbubu.”
The name is a nod to the iconic Moonman trophy, awarded since 1984. Monroe designed Labubu in a silver spacesuit with a cosmic helmet, inspired by the original Moonman. “Who’s taking Moonbubu home tonight?” the designer wrote on social media, sharing close-up shots of his work.

Monroe, a creative force at House of Avalon, is renowned for his custom Labubu outfits inspired by pop culture and celebrities. He has designed collections for Marc Jacobs, Lady Gaga, and Lisa, and his “Wednesday” Labubu collection went viral online in August.
Labubu first appeared in 2015 in the book The Monsters and became a collectible toy four years later through China’s Pop Mart. By 2025, Labubu had evolved into a fashion accessory, appearing on the red carpet with stars like Cher, Dua Lipa, and Rihanna. Even Madonna celebrated Labubu’s 67th anniversary with a themed cake.

"Labubu has become more than a collectible toy; it’s a bold statement of individual style," said Emily Brow, Head of Licensing at Pop Mart America.
