Jackie Chan alive and well: Fake death rumor sparks panic online

71-year-old Jackie Chan found himself at the center of death rumors on Monday evening, when Facebook and other social media platforms were flooded with posts falsely claiming that the actor had passed away.

The fake posts were accompanied by AI-generated images of Chan in a hospital bed, along with incorrect birth and death dates. One post read: “Today, the world lost its most beloved cinematic icon, the actor, martial arts master, and man with a contagious laugh—Jackie Chan.”

The rumors triggered a surge of Google searches with queries like “Jackie Chan dead.”

Ironically, the AI app Grok helped users clarify the situation, responding to questions about the actor’s death: “No, this is fake. Jackie Chan is alive and well as of November 11, 2025. Recent reports confirm that he remains active in films and public appearances. The death rumors stem from fake social media posts.”

Many social media users expressed frustration: “Why is Facebook trying to ‘kill’ Jackie Chan?” and “I hate Facebook—they made me think Jackie Chan was dead.”

This isn’t the first time such rumors have circulated. In August 2025, false reports of Chan’s death also appeared, allegedly confirmed by his wife, Joan Lin. That instance also involved AI-generated imagery.
