16:16 20 November, 2025Money talks—and in this case, it could buy you a front-row seat at the most exclusive fashion party of the year. Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sánchez Bezos have been announced as the lead sponsors of the 2026 Met Gala and the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute exhibition, according to Page Six.
The world’s fourth-richest person, with a net worth of $234 billion, and the former television host will cover a significant portion of the event’s costs on May 4, giving them potential influence over who receives the coveted invitations.
The couple made their Met Gala debut in 2024, with Sánchez turning heads in a custom Oscar de la Renta gown. Vogue editor-turned-institutional power Anna Wintour defended their sponsorship, telling The New York Times that Sánchez “loves costumes” and “loves fashion.”
Their lavish three-day wedding in Venice last June drew a star-studded guest list—including Sydney Sweeney, Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Oprah Winfrey, and Ivanka Trump—many of whom could appear at the next Met Gala.
Traditionally, Wintour selects a group of celebrities to co-chair the event; these stars make the first appearances on the red carpet and are usually tied to the exhibition’s theme. Kim Kardashian, for example, is rumored to be a potential co-chair for the Costume Institute’s upcoming exhibition focused on the body. Despite frequent appearances at the gala, no Kardashian-Jenner family member has held this title before.
The couple’s sponsorship could echo previous landmark contributions, such as billionaire Stephen Schwarzman and his wife Christine, who donated $5 million to the 2018 “Heavenly Bodies” exhibition. With a $234 billion fortune, Bezos has effectively secured a premium spot for his wife within the elite fashion circle by sponsoring the museum’s most lucrative annual event.
Another topic of intrigue is the gala’s dress code, which sets the tone for celebrity fashion statements but has not yet been released. For instance, the 2022 “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” exhibition called for “golden glamour, white tie,” inspiring Kim Kardashian to wear one of Marilyn Monroe’s iconic archival dresses.
Fashion biographer Amy Odell predicts that the upcoming “Costume Art” exhibition dress code will push celebrities toward daring, body-conscious looks—a perfect fit for Sánchez, known for her form-fitting ensembles.
Additional support for the sponsorship will come from Saint Laurent and Condé Nast.
