“Witches are leaving Etsy”: Marketplace cracks down on magical services

A real “witch storm” has erupted on Etsy, as the online marketplace begins removing sellers of magical services—more than a decade after officially banning such offerings, reports NYP.

Magic enthusiasts and disgruntled customers took to social media to praise the sellers, who had offered tarot readings, prophecies, love and protection spells, luck- or weather-manifesting services for weddings, soulmate sketches, and even curses.

Despite their popularity, Etsy has prohibited the sale of spells, enchantments, and other supernatural services since 2015.

Beatrix, who sold her services under the brand Celestial Craft Spells, called the removal unfair. “On Etsy, witches had a place where we could work without discrimination. The platform even helped us find clients through ads. Now we’ve just been wiped off with no explanation. For many of us, this was our main source of income,” she said. She added that Etsy’s decision felt like a return to the Salem witch trials.

TikTok user Carol Jay shared that when she tried to visit her usual Etsy witch’s page, the shop was gone. “I was shocked. No messages, no explanation. Etsy is just removing all magic sellers,” she said. Customers who were waiting for orders were left in the dark and felt cheated.

Some witches are now opening their own websites and building social media followings. Beatrix, for example, joined Witchly—a platform like Etsy, but exclusively for witches. “Customers will still seek magical services, but they’re less protected now,” she explained.

Comments on TikTok called the crackdown a “real witch hunt,” with some warning, “Etsy will soon be cursed!” Many followers are demanding that magical sellers be reinstated on the platform.
