Architectural poetry by the shore: Sou Fujimoto’s Baccarat Residences in Abu Dhabi

Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto makes his UAE residential debut with Baccarat Residences on Saadiyat Island — the heart of Abu Dhabi’s cultural district, just steps from Frank Gehry’s iconic Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.

The two pristine white towers captivate with their organic, undulating design: staggered, wave-like floors inspired by the island’s shoreline create the impression that the buildings rise naturally from the sand. The facades feature a perforated pattern that plays with light and shadow, while interiors by Los Angeles-based Studio PCH echo the fluidity of the exterior with soft, rounded shapes and a neutral ivory palette.

The development will offer 77 residences, including two- and three-bedroom apartments, four-bedroom sky villas, and two signature penthouses. An upper-level infinity pool will give residents breathtaking views of both the Guggenheim and the Louvre Abu Dhabi. “Baccarat Residences represents the pinnacle of luxury living on Saadiyat, merging world-class architecture, the heritage of Baccarat, and the unique cultural environment of the island,” says Jonathan Emery, CEO of Aldar Development.

The project complements the island’s architectural ensemble, which already includes Jean Nouvel’s Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum by Foster + Partners, and TeamLab’s immersive art gallery. Baccarat Residences promises to be a new landmark for connoisseurs of refined design, architectural harmony, and elevated living.
