Armenian glamour at the Oscars: Armenian designers shine on Hollywood’s most famous red carpet

This year, among the usual high-fashion houses on Hollywood’s biggest night — the Oscars — Armenian names made a remarkable appearance. Armenian designers’ dresses and jewelry adorned the red carpet, and one of the evening’s nominees herself represents the Armenian diaspora.

First Armenian Pixar Director Walks the Red Carpet in an Armenian Dress

One of the most notable Armenian appearances was by director-animator Madeline Sharafyan, nominated for her work on Pixar Animation Studios’ animated film Elio. Sharafyan has already made history in the industry, becoming the first Armenian woman to direct a feature at Pixar and only the third female director in the studio’s history.

She walked the red carpet in a dress by Armenian designer Varduhi Torosyan, founder of the brand Jocund. The look was prepared in collaboration with the Yerevan-based platform Rien-à-Porter, which promotes Armenian designers and contemporary local fashion. The soft, almost fairy-tale-like layers of fabric were designed to convey her natural elegance and grace.

Hollywood Casting Director Chooses an Armenian Designer

Another Armenian designer made it to the red carpet thanks to Hollywood casting director Francine Meisler, who worked on the film Sinners. For the ceremony, Meisler wore a dress by Armenian designer Louisa Baburyan, known for her sculptural approach to draping and flowing silhouettes. Her style combines architectural precision with soft, feminine movement. The look was completed with jewelry by Sonya Boyajian and Arman Sarkisyan — a jeweler whose pieces are long favored by Hollywood stylists.

After the ceremony, Louisa Baburyan shared on social media: “Francine Meisler is a woman of incredible talent. Thank you for choosing me for Hollywood’s biggest night. It was an honor to create this look for you.”

French Director Appears at the Oscars in a Skirt by an Armenian Designer

Another fashion highlight involved French director-animator Maelis Vallad, co-creator of Little Amélie or the Character of Rain. She walked the red carpet in a long mint-green skirt by Armenian designer Von Vemian.

The Los Angeles-based designer is known for his dramatic couture creations. His eveningwear is often described as “living sculptures” due to their complex shapes, intricate handcrafting, and expressive silhouettes. Vallad’s look was once again complemented with jewelry by Arman Sarkisyan.
