Doja Cat gets “ugly” on purpose to avoid paparazzi attention

Doja Cat opened up in the April issue of Vogue about how she tries to maintain her privacy and avoid paparazzi while out in public.

The singer admitted that she “100%” wants to be able to shop like a normal person—without security or having stores closed off for her. Instead, she prefers a more “creative” approach: deliberately making herself look “ugly.”

“Sometimes I try to look purposefully ugly. I turn it into a game,” she explained.

The interview also touched on her teenage years, when Doja described herself as “fully agoraphobic” and rarely leaving her house. Today, her hermit-like tendencies help her recharge between projects.

For her latest album Vie, released in September 2025, Doja spent time at home in the Los Angeles suburbs, “being a hermit.” She played video games, drank wine, and spent quiet moments with her cat. “When I’m home, I’m just home with my cat,” she shared.
