Robert De Niro slams “fool” Trump at No Kings protests, urges voters to take action

Hollywood legend Robert De Niro joined nationwide “No Kings” protests, delivering a sharp rebuke of President Donald Trump, calling him a threat to democracy, and urging Americans to get involved ahead of the midterm elections. Organizers estimated that around 8 million people participated in the March 28 demonstrations, according to USA Today.

As the “No Kings” protests spread across the country, De Niro intensified his criticism of the president.

Speaking alongside Reverend Al Sharpton, the 82-year-old actor told MS Now that the massive turnout gave him hope that the midterm elections could prevent victories for Trump and his Republican allies.

“Our democracy is at risk. This fool, along with the fools around him, is tearing it apart. It feels like a surreal dream — it’s madness,” De Niro said. “We cannot ease up until the midterms are over — and over the right way. We cannot ease the pressure on this man.”

Accusing Trump of trying to “distract from the so-called Epstein files,” De Niro added, “If I understand anything, it’s this: this man will stop at nothing because he is unhinged. He is unhealthy. He is a deeply wounded individual — period. We need to stand up and act.”

“At stake is my country. I’m not going to stay silent — why should I? Why should anyone stay silent when we know the truth?” he told Sharpton.

De Niro was among many high-profile figures at the protests, including Jane Fonda, Bruce Springsteen, Joan Baez, and MASH* actor Mike Farrell.

At a press rally in New York, De Niro addressed the crowd directly: “When the crowd chants ‘No Kings,’ what I hear, like all of us, is ‘No Trump.’” “There have been other presidents who tested the limits of their constitutional powers at times, but none posed such an existential threat to our freedoms and security. None — except Trump. He must be stopped, and it must be done now.”

In addition to criticizing Trump, De Niro called for an end to “unnecessary wars that drain our resources, sacrifice our service members, and result in the deaths of innocent people,” and vowed to “move from street protests to the ballot box.”
