Sophie Turner suffers “minor injury” on new ‘Tomb Raider’ set, filming temporarily paused

Sophie Turner, best known for her role in Game of Thrones, has suffered a “minor injury” while filming the upcoming reboot of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, according to Page Six.

Production of the Amazon MGM Studios series has been temporarily paused as the actress recovers. “We look forward to resuming filming as soon as possible,” studio representatives said.

A source indicated that Turner is expected to return to set in about two weeks, while the crew continues preparatory work and remains on payroll.

The actress has previously dealt with a spinal issue, which was aggravated by long filming hours since January. “Sophie fully commits to the role, but the physical demands of portraying Lara Croft led to overexertion,” the insider explained.

Earlier this year, Turner spoke about her “ongoing back issue,” discovered during a month-long preparation for the role. “We trained eight hours a day, five days a week since February last year, so the workload was intense,” she admitted.

Turner also noted that, without prior experience in physical training, she had to spend several months getting her body in shape for the action-heavy role.

She has been performing various stunts on location in the UK, including scenes in forests and snowy terrain. The iconic character of Lara Croft, an archaeologist and adventurer, was previously portrayed by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
