George Clooney accuses Trump of “war crimes,” mocks White House response

George Clooney has fired back at Donald Trump’s administration after the White House mocked his acting ability in response to his comments about potential war crimes.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning actor criticized the tone of the response, saying the current global situation calls for serious dialogue — not personal attacks.

“People are losing loved ones. Children are dying. The global economy is on the brink,” Clooney said. “This is a time for serious discussions at the highest level, not childish insults.”

The actor also responded to criticism with a dose of irony. “Is the administration’s defense really to call me a failed actor? I’m actually willing to agree with that — especially after Batman & Robin,” he quipped.

The clash began after Donald Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that “an entire civilization could disappear overnight” if Iran does not agree to U.S. ceasefire terms.

Clooney publicly condemned the remarks while speaking to students in Italy. “If someone talks about destroying an entire civilization, that is a war crime,” he said.

His comments drew a sharp response from White House communications director Steven Cheung, who wrote on X: “The only one committing crimes is George Clooney — with his terrible movies and acting.”

Clooney, however, doubled down, emphasizing that the issue at hand goes far beyond personal attacks and should not be reduced to political mudslinging.
