Billionaire’s Girlfriend Fires Back: “If I Could Control Him, I’d Already Be Married With a Baby”
12:12 12 May, 2026Sergey Brin’s girlfriend, often labeled in the media as his “MAGA girlfriend,” has firmly rejected claims that she was responsible for shifting the Google co-founder’s political views to the right, insisting instead that Democrats themselves drove his transformation.
“The Democrats turned him. I didn’t have to do anything,” Gerelyn “GG” Gilbert-Soto told The Free Press.
“He has a mind of his own. If I could control him, I’d already be married with a baby.”
Gilbert-Soto — once described by President Donald Trump as Brin’s “very wonderful MAGA girlfriend” — made the remarks in response to a New York Times report suggesting she played a major role in Brin’s political evolution from Democratic donor to Republican ally and Trump supporter.
She insists Brin’s ideological shift began long before their relationship, which has lasted roughly three years.
“If he were some hardcore liberal, he wouldn’t be with me, and I wouldn’t be with him,” she said.
Brin, 52, has increasingly aligned himself with figures in Trump’s orbit in recent years, despite previously backing liberal causes, environmental efforts, and Democratic leaders including Barack Obama.
As of Monday, Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimated Brin’s fortune at $313 billion, making him the third-richest person in the world.
Brin and Gilbert-Soto recently relocated from California to Nevada and have been outspoken critics of California’s proposed wealth tax, which would impose a one-time 5% levy on billionaires.
Reports indicate Brin has already spent tens of millions fighting the measure and has also donated to Republican political figures, including gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton.
Gilbert-Soto says she personally supports the “Make America Healthy Again” movement associated with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., while describing her own views as moderate despite being branded MAGA.
She revealed that she previously voted for Hillary Clinton but became disillusioned with Democrats during the COVID-19 pandemic and after the political fallout surrounding the 2017 Charlottesville protests.
“I used to think Trump was terrible, but now I love him,” she said, describing the president as “charismatic,” “very smart,” and “extremely interesting.”
According to Gilbert-Soto, while she and Brin may collaborate on political and philanthropic decisions, Brin always makes his own final choices.
“At the end of the day, it’s his decision. He won’t support something he doesn’t believe in,” she explained.
The couple reportedly met in 2023 at a San Francisco party following Burning Man, shortly after Brin’s second divorce.
Gilbert-Soto described Brin as socially awkward and far removed from the stereotypical image of a hardened tech billionaire.
“On our first date, he was trying so hard to be something he’s not. You could tell he was actually a kind person trying to seem tough,” she said.
Today, the pair split their time between Lake Tahoe, New York, and Washington, D.C., where Brin has become increasingly involved in conversations surrounding artificial intelligence policy.
