Iranian Embassy responds to Eurovision scandal: “No other flag can replace the beautiful flag of Armenia”

“No other flag can replace the beautiful flag of Armenia. Armenia is a historical and civilizational nation, and Iran has always stood by its side,” the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran wrote in a post on X.

It should be noted that the Israeli state broadcaster Kan 11, during its broadcast of the Eurovision semi-final, displayed Armenia and Azerbaijan under the same flag — the Azerbaijani flag.

Speaking to Sputnik Armenia, the head of the “Nairi” Union of Israeli Armenians of Petah Tikva, Artom Chernomoryan, said the incident sparked widespread reaction and dissatisfaction within the Armenian community in Israel. At the same time, he described the incident as the result of an editorial mistake rather than an intentional provocation.

It is also noted that the channel in question was previously involved in a scandal in 2025. At that time, after Armenia’s Eurovision performance, the broadcaster’s commentator said: “I can’t believe we gave these guys an entire quarter in Jerusalem. ‘Survivor’ — that is exactly how we feel after listening to this song.”

Following this, Armenia’s Public Television addressed the Israeli public broadcaster demanding clarification. In response, the Armenian side received an official letter of apology from the corporation’s director general, Golan Yochpaz, for the commentator’s remarks.

Later, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation also issued a public apology.
