Kim Kardashian forgives robbers who stole £7.5 million in jewellery, demands just €1 in compensation

Kim Kardashian has surprised the public with an unexpected resolution to the high-profile armed robbery case in Paris, nearly a decade after the attack, by requesting only symbolic compensation of just one euro.

The case refers to the widely reported 2016 robbery during Paris Fashion Week, when a group of criminals broke into Kardashian’s luxury hotel suite at the Hôtel de Pourtalès, tied her up, gagged her, and threatened her at gunpoint before stealing jewellery worth approximately £7.5 million.

Among the stolen items was her famous engagement ring, valued at around £3 million, gifted to her by her former husband, rapper Kanye West. Most of the stolen jewellery has never been recovered.

However, during civil proceedings, Kardashian’s lawyer Léonor Hennerick stated that her client no longer seeks significant financial compensation.

“She is requesting only a symbolic one euro,” the lawyer said.

The amount is to be paid by four key members of the gang, including the alleged ringleader Aomar Aït Khedache, who is now 70 years old.

Following a high-profile trial, members of the group were nicknamed the “grandpa robbers” due to their age and health issues. Despite convictions, none returned to prison, as the court took into account their age, medical conditions, and time already served in custody.

The ringleader received the harshest sentence — eight years in prison, five of which were suspended.

During the proceedings, Kim Kardashian became emotional after receiving a written apology from Aït Khedache. She said:

“I appreciate the letter. I forgive you for what happened, but it doesn’t change the emotions, the feelings, and the trauma that has permanently changed my life.”

Judge David De Pas later acknowledged that the sentences were relatively lenient, but noted that none of the defendants were likely to reoffend.

Kardashian’s stylist, Simone Bretter, who was also present during the robbery, similarly requested only symbolic compensation of one euro.

By contrast, hotel receptionist Abderrahmane Ouatiki — who was also threatened at gunpoint — is seeking €550,000 in damages, citing long-term psychological trauma.

The Hôtel de Pourtalès is also claiming around £86,000 for reputational damage.

A final ruling on the civil compensation is expected from the French court on 15 September.
