21:31 22 June, 2026A funny meme recently went viral on Instagram: "The last time the New York Knicks won a championship, a classic Chanel Flap bag cost $350." In 2026, the mere thought of a luxury handbag costing under $400 feels completely absurd—today, price tags on iconic models from heritage fashion houses are 10 to 20 times higher.
For those searching for an elegant, high-quality, and practical bag without wanting to spend a fortune, times are tough. It was precisely this dilemma that Vera G. Wang found herself in years ago, ultimately inspiring her to launch Verafied—a New York-based leather and suede handbag brand ranging from spacious totes to evening bags, with nothing priced over $500, WWD reports.
"The idea was born long before the brand even launched. It all started with personal frustration," shares Vera Wang. "I adored beautiful, high-quality bags. But I developed a strong feeling that major fashion houses had stopped creating anything genuinely new, while continuously hiking up their prices. On the other hand, fast-fashion brands offered endless options, but quality and craftsmanship were completely non-existent."
Verafied officially launched in 2021. The debut piece was a hobo bag that instantly went viral on social media. From the beginning, Vera banked on a direct-to-consumer (DTC) model, bypassing middle-men and traditional retail markups to keep luxury accessible.
The designer aims to create timeless pieces with an innovative approach to functionality, ensuring the bags aren't just beautiful accessories, but truly practical everyday companions.

The Workwear Icon: A roomy model that effortlessly fits a laptop. Its design was inspired by a vintage 1950s bag that belonged to the grandfather of one of Vera's close friends. Its ultimate selling point is a waterproof interior pocket—perfect for stashing a wet swimsuit, gadgets, or a change of shoes.
The Café Mini ($228): This recent release instantly achieved cult status. The concept was born out of the need for a compact bag that is convenient for grabbing coffee or heading out to dinner. Measuring just 19 by 9 cm, the bag features a rounded shape that Vera affectionately calls a "big belly"—a structure that makes it incredibly spacious despite its small size. Customers fell so deeply in love with the Café Mini's color palette and textures that they frequently purchase several at once in different shades.

Despite rapid commercial success and recognition in the fashion capital, Vera Wang is in no rush to scale her business at the expense of its core philosophy.
"I plan to continue adhering to the principles of slow fashion and mindfulness," Wang notes. "My goal is to build a brand that stands the test of time. Exactly like each of my bags, which are designed to last you for years to come—both in terms of design and structural durability."
