‘You Need to Marry Selena’: Benny Blanco Says His Mom Predicted His Romance With Selena Gomez Years Before They Tied the Knot

It turns out Benny Blanco’s mother may have seen the future long before anyone else.

The music producer has revealed that years before he and Selena Gomez became a couple, his mom was convinced that the singer would one day become his wife.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, Blanco recalled filming a music video in 2019. At the time, he was dating someone else, and Gomez was simply a friend and collaborator.

“My mom was sitting on set and suddenly said, ‘You need to marry Selena,’” Blanco recalled. “I was like, ‘What?’ And she said, ‘You need a girl like Selena.’”

According to Blanco, there was nothing romantic between them at the time. Still, after every interaction with Gomez, he found himself increasingly impressed by her.

“Every time I hung out with her, I thought, ‘She’s so cool. She’s genuinely so cool,’” he admitted.

As it turns out, he wasn’t the only one who noticed. One of Blanco’s former girlfriends recently reminded him that even while they were dating, he spoke about Gomez in nothing but positive terms.

Looking back, the producer believes his mother recognized something he couldn’t yet see.

“She literally planted that seed in my head,” Blanco said.

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco married in September 2025 during a private ceremony in California. Today, the producer describes his wife as his best friend and says that, to him, that’s exactly what real love looks like.

“Everyone says you should marry your best friend. And Selena is my best friend,” he said.
