George Clooney, who shares a long and close relationship with Italy and the Venice Film Festival, has frequently showcased his films on the Lido over the years. Most recently, he brought the Netflix film Jay Kelly to the festival, Deadline reports.

"I’ve had so many amazing moments in Venice. This festival is, without a doubt, my absolute favorite, and to receive the Golden Lion is a monumental honor. It’s probably also a hint that I’m getting old, but I’ll gladly take it," the actor joked.

Festival Director Alberto Barbera stated that "in his triple role as actor, director, and producer, George Clooney emerges as a complete, charismatic, passionate, and original artist who has managed to transform a deep calling into one of the most brilliant trajectories in contemporary cinema." Barbera added:

"At the dawn of his career, he didn't look for shortcuts: he started with bit parts in TV series and B-movies until achieving resounding success as the breakout star of ER. This path shaped an actor capable of commanding the screen with disarming naturalness. Thanks to his undeniable charm, he possesses a rare gift for making his characters not just compelling, but desirable, relatable, and universally understood. However, Clooney's charisma is built on authority rather than mere image, as his power of attraction has never been purely aesthetic."

The Academy Award winner famously owns a villa in the Italian region of Lake Como and chose Venice as the location for his wedding. Clooney will soon be seen in a cameo appearance in the upcoming Netflix feature Call My Agent! The Movie. Additionally, he recently served as an executive producer on the thriller series The Agency.
