12:42 17 July, 2026Following the death of Mary Jo "M.J." Shannon, the mother of Kris Jenner, Kim Kardashian has shared a heartfelt tribute to her beloved grandmother. The 45-year-old reality star took to Instagram with an emotional post, describing M.J. as her "best friend."
"My sweet Grandma M.J., my best friend, my confidante, and my forever twin... You taught our entire family the most important lesson of all—that family always comes first. Those values will stay with us for the rest of our lives," Kim wrote.
She recalled that it was her grandmother who gave her her very first job at Shannon & Co., the children's boutique M.J. owned in San Diego.
"You gave me my first job and taught me the value of hard work, strength, and confidence. You always believed in me, supported me, and made me feel safe," Kardashian wrote.
Kim described M.J. as the true matriarch of the family, saying her love will live on through every member of it.
"I know you're finally at peace. Give Grandpa Harry, Aunt Karen, and my dad a hug for me. You will always be a part of me. I love you endlessly, and I'll miss you for the rest of my life," she wrote, ending her tribute with the words, "You were the best of us."
Kim also shared the last message she received from her grandmother. In it, M.J. expressed hope that her 10 great-grandchildren would help make the world a better place.
"I pray that my 10 great-grandchildren will help save our planet, find solutions to climate change and pollution, stop the destruction of this beautiful Earth, and fulfill their important purpose in this world."
Some followers questioned why Kim had posted photos from a family lake vacation shortly before announcing her grandmother's death. She later clarified that the post had been scheduled in advance.
"It was automatically published a few days before we lost M.J. I spent the past week with my mom and my grandma, and right now all my thoughts are with my family. We love her so much and miss her beyond words. In the coming days, we'll be remembering and celebrating her beautiful life," Kardashian explained.
Kris Jenner previously announced the passing of her mother, Mary Jo Shannon, who died at the age of 91. M.J. was a familiar face to fans of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, making regular appearances on the family's reality series and becoming one of its most beloved figures.
