17:06 17 July, 2026A new independent TV series, Odysseus, is in development from Greek production company Tanweer, alongside U.S. producers Tectonic and U.S.-Armenian company USATV. The historical drama, inspired by the world of Homer’s The Odyssey, will present a grounded, realistic portrayal of the Bronze Age, focusing on the human struggles, politics, and conflicts behind the legendary tale.
Production is scheduled to begin early next year, with filming taking place on location in both Armenia and Greece—two countries that will provide the authentic landscapes for the series’ ancient world.
The project is led by Stranger Things executive producer Karl Gajdusek as showrunner, with acclaimed director Roel Reiné (Halo, Black Sails) directing. Producers hope Odysseus will become the foundation for a broader franchise set within the same universe. The creative team says the series aims to deliver an authentic, immersive vision of ancient Hellenic Greece while exploring the real historical events that inspired Homer’s epic.
