Elon Musk Ready to Give Mel Gibson $100M for a "Historically Accurate" The Odyssey in Homeric Greek

Elon Musk is once again stealing the spotlight in the film industry. This time, the billionaire declared he is willing to fund an alternative adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey—a direct response to Christopher Nolan’s new blockbuster.

It all started with a post by a user on X (formerly Twitter). The author suggested that Musk fund a $100 million project directed by Mel Gibson, where everything—from armor and ships to casting—would be as authentic as possible, with all dialogue delivered strictly in Ancient Homeric Greek.

Eight hours later, Musk responded simply: "I'm down."

Nolan Criticism and Casting Controversies

Musk's sudden focus on the ancient epic stems from his ongoing feud with Christopher Nolan's new film, The Odyssey. The world's richest man has repeatedly attacked the movie and its cast.

Specifically, Musk lashed out over the casting of Black actress Lupita Nyong'o (who plays Helen of Troy) and transgender actor Elliot Page (who plays the Greek warrior Sinon). Back in May, the billionaire claimed Nolan had "lost his integrity" in pursuit of awards and diversity agendas.

However, Musk's attacks did nothing to slow the movie's box-office momentum:

• $124 million — US domestic opening weekend gross;

• $263.7 million — global opening total, marking the biggest debut of Christopher Nolan's career.

AI Instead of a Director?

If the Mel Gibson collaboration fails to materialize, the SpaceX founder has an even more radical backup plan. Musk claimed that his AI assistant, Grok Imagine, is capable of generating a full-length, historically accurate movie adaptation of The Odyssey all on its own—before the end of this year.

As proof of concept, he reposted an AI-generated three-minute video featuring a dialogue between Odysseus and the nymph Calypso, speaking with a subtle Greek accent. The clip, along with Musk's post, has already racked up over 18 million views.
