According to Johnson, the breakthrough will allow him to test cutting-edge therapies and eventually grow organs for transplantation.
"I just cloned myself... as a newborn," Johnson wrote on X. "Right now, this 'Baby Bryan' lives in a Petri dish. To some, this looks like a scary or dystopian future. But others will see it as an inevitable step in the evolution of medicine."
The technology Johnson is referring to is known in the scientific community as induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). The process involves taking ordinary cells from a standard blood draw and reprogramming them back into a state equivalent to embryonic stem cells, The Independent reports.
This is an established field in biomedicine pioneered by Japanese scientist Shinya Yamanaka, who earned the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2012 for the discovery.
Last month, Johnson revealed he was diagnosed with an incurable autoimmune condition where his immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells in his stomach lining. However, the entrepreneur remains determined to find a solution using AI and advanced genetic engineering. "With this clone, I can become my own donor: testing therapies on it, growing organs for transplant, developing new treatments, and introducing young cells," the biohacker explained. "This technology opens the door for us to reverse aging. The diagnosis became a catalyst for me to explore new frontiers in body regeneration."
