George and Amal Clooney Flee Their French Estate Due to Massive Wildfires

Raging wildfires in the south of France have forced actor George Clooney and his wife Amal to urgently evacuate their home.

The 65-year-old Oscar winner and the 48-year-old human rights attorney reside in the town of Brignoles, located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The area is currently under threat from the wildfires sweeping across France, Greece, Italy, and Spain.

Clooney revealed that he, along with his wife and their nine-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, was forced to evacuate in a letter to the Mayor of Brignoles, Didier Brémond. A representative for the actor confirmed the news to People magazine.

In his brief yet touching letter, the actor promised to support the French town of nearly 18,000 residents, regardless of the severity of the damage caused by the advancing flames.

"Dear Didier, right now we have no idea whether our beautiful home will survive this terrible moment," Clooney wrote. "As we leave Brignoles, we want to emphasize two things: first, we hope that you and all the residents of our town are safe; and second, Amal and I are fully committed to doing whatever it takes to help our town rebuild, no matter what happens to it. We love Brignoles and our friends who live here."

Brignoles Mayor Didier Brémond shared aerial photos on Facebook showing the sheer scale of the fire threatening the town. "The fire has become less active and is moving more slowly, largely thanks to weakening winds," the mayor noted, adding that evacuation orders for the affected areas remain in effect.

News of the Clooney family's evacuation comes as the EU's emergency management chief warned that wildfires could envelope "all of Europe" in the coming days. According to forecasts, the highest level of fire risk will persist over the coming weeks in Greece, Italy, and Central Europe, raising fears of further disasters as firefighters continue to battle the blazes across the southern continent.
