Angelina Jolie's brother comes out as gay following divorce from wife

Angelina Jolie’s older brother, actor James Haven, has come out as gay, speaking openly about it during a candid conversation on a Substack broadcast hosted by his ex-wife, Romi Imbelli.

To recap, Haven and Imbelli were married in August 2024 during a ceremony in Laguna Beach, California, though it was later revealed that just 15 days later she filed for an annulment.

During the broadcast, Imbelli offered Haven "the opportunity to speak on it" before reading a joint statement. When asked how he identifies, Haven smiled and asked, "Is that the cue?" before telling viewers directly: "I am gay."

Haven read a touching message sharing memories from his childhood. "When I was a little boy, I was completely obsessed with Disney princesses. I would secretly put glitter on my cheeks, mascara on my eyelashes, and in those moments, I felt magic."

According to the actor, he didn't have the right words back then to explain what was happening, but he knew for sure that it brought him closer to his true self. "It was never about trying to pretend to be someone else. It was about allowing the part of me that had always existed to shine."

Like many gay children, he learned to question parts of his own identity long before he learned to take pride in them.

"Coming out isn't about turning into someone new; it's about giving everyone else a chance to finally meet the person who was here the whole time," he emphasized.

In an additional Substack video, Haven noted that he feels truly free after years of healing from childhood trauma.

"After years of healing from childhood trauma, I am now free to live the life I believe I was always meant to live. A life of hope, peace, and love."
