Netflix lives up actor in Hollywood billboard to promote new thriller

Netflix's new thriller poses a terrifying question: how long could you survive if you were trapped inside your own home? To highlight this idea in practice, the company staged an unusual performance right in the center of Los Angeles.

To promote the film The Last House, the streaming service hired an actor to "live" inside a fully furnished living room built into a billboard approximately 30 feet (9 meters) above the busy intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Selma Avenue in Hollywood.

The installation mimics a cozy room floating in the sky, catching the attention of all drivers and pedestrians.

The actor will remain in his glass "refuge" from Thursday, August 6, to Saturday, August 8. The film itself premiered on the platform on Friday, August 7.

The outside of the makeshift home features the inscription: "How long can you survive?"

Trying to act as naturally as possible in the confined space, the performer communicates with people passing by below using a white message board—just like the characters in the film in a hopeless situation. Videos of the man lying on the couch, waving to passersby, and showing signs with phrases like "what's going on" and "stuck here" are already going viral on social media.

Social media users reacted enthusiastically to the marketing campaign, calling it genius:

• "I wave to this guy every day on my way to the gym. It's wild to see a house right up in the air," wrote one local resident.

• "Smart trick. Making the marketing mirror the actual premise of the movie is a great move," added another.

Some commenters jokingly wondered about everyday practicalities, such as: "I hope they have air conditioning up there" and "How do they handle the bathroom situation?"

The unusual stunt aims to draw attention to the new sci-fi thriller directed by Louis Leterrier.

According to the plot, a family mysteriously finds themselves sealed inside their own home. They must fight for survival amidst dwindling resources and confront a sinister force keeping them locked inside.

As the trailer unfolds, it becomes clear that this is not an isolated incident—neighbors and the rest of the world are trapped in their homes in the exact same way.

As director Louis Leterrier himself noted, the film challenges the idea of a safe haven, turning the family hearth into a hostile environment where complete unity is required to survive.
