13:28 7 August, 2026Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez are preparing to tie the knot this weekend in Madeira—the island where the famous footballer grew up. After nearly a decade together and having five children, one of the world's most famous couples has chosen the luxurious five-star Savoy Palace hotel in Funchal, known for its panoramic views, rooftop infinity pool, and personalized service, to host their celebration.
Georgina will walk down the aisle at the Funchal Cathedral, located in the historic center of Madeira's capital. The cathedral can accommodate around 800 guests.

Following the wedding ceremony, the newlyweds will head to the luxury hotel, a journey that takes just five minutes by car or 15 minutes on foot.
The couple is expected to stay in the hotel's exclusive upper-floor area known as The Reserve (an "hotel within an hotel"), where room rates start at £1,100 per night. The family will have access to private areas, including the Jacarandá lounge club with a rooftop panoramic infinity pool, a solarium, private dining areas, and personal butler services.
For the celebration itself, the couple can choose from any of the hotel's luxurious venues: from the majestic Grand Ballroom, capable of holding up to 1,000 guests, to the futuristic rooftop spaces of the Galáxia restaurant.

The wedding dinner will take place at Galáxia Seafood & Guardian, where Chef Roberto Barros offers guests an exquisite culinary journey featuring local Madeiran flavors with a modern twist.
After the festivities, the couple can unwind at one of Europe's largest wellness sanctuaries located within the hotel, which offers 26 different treatments, including exclusive massages and facials.
Choosing Madeira for the wedding is deeply symbolic for Ronaldo. Despite a net worth estimated at $1.4 billion and owning properties all over the world, the footballer decided to return to his homeland, where he lived in poverty as a child and shared a single room with all his brothers and sisters before moving to Sporting CP's academy at age 11.

Ronaldo proposed last summer after eight years together. As the athlete revealed in an interview with Piers Morgan, it happened quite spontaneously late at night: while he was giving Georgina the ring, the children unexpectedly walked into the room and said, "Daddy, are you going to give mom a ring and ask her to marry you?"

"I said to myself, 'Wow, this is the perfect moment to say yes,'" the footballer recalled. "I chose her not just because she is the mother of my children, but because she is the person I love most in the world."
