"I'm So Jealous of My Mom's Figure": Cindy Crawford's Daughter Openly Discusses Her Eating Disorder

Being the child of a world-famous supermodel is a heavy burden. 24-year-old actress and model Kaia Gerber graced the cover of the new issue of Vogue, where, in a joint interview with Homer Gere (son of Richard Gere), she spoke honestly about media pressure, online hate, and her struggle with mental health challenges.

According to Kaia, she has had to deal with constant comparisons to her legendary mother, Cindy Crawford, since childhood. Amid modern trends favoring extreme thinness, the criticism did not pass her by.

"We are clearly in that cycle right now where everyone is obsessed with extreme thinness. Because I’ve been thin most of my life, people always compared me to my mom: like, what's wrong with Kaia?"

Gerber confessed that because of this, she battled an eating disorder (ED) for years and suffered from imposed insecurities.

"I so wish I was born with boobs and a butt. People have always commented on my body, and it’s hard because you’re not always ready to talk about your own body yourself, you know? When people write, 'You look terrible,' that doesn't make you say, 'Oh, great. Time to overcome this mental illness!' Negativity has never saved anyone."

Despite the public pressure, Cindy Crawford herself previously noted that her daughter has a "level head on her shoulders" and a great understanding of how to set personal boundaries.

Nevertheless, today's realities with their cult of social media create an entirely different level of psychological stress for the new generation of stars—one that Kaia has to deal with publicly.
