Why Victoria Declared War on Daughter-in-Law Nicola Peltz: The Whole Truth About the Beckham Family Rift

A new book by writer and public relations expert Alison Boshoff, Brand Beckham, sheds light on one of the most high-profile celebrity conflicts of modern times: the protracted feud between David and Victoria Beckham and their eldest son, Brooklyn, and his wife, Nicola Peltz. In an exclusive interview with HELLO! magazine, the author discussed the hidden reasons behind the hostility, the role of the Palm Beach wedding, and who might reconcile the famous family.

"Declaration of War": What Happened at the 2022 Wedding

The crack in the family's relationship became widely known after Brooklyn made public statements earlier in the year accusing his parents of always putting "Brand Beckham" first. However, the roots of the conflict go much deeper—straight back to the wedding day of Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz in April 2022.

According to Alison Boshoff, three months before the ceremony, the families were already on less-than-ideal terms. Victoria Beckham’s controversial dance at the wedding reception, which many saw as an attempt to steal the spotlight from the bride, proved to be the final straw.

"It was a mystery why that dance had such an explosive effect," Alison explains. "But later I was told that the Beckhams and the Pelzes hadn’t spoken for three months leading up to the wedding. Now I understand why the dance felt like a declaration of war. Nicola’s father, billionaire Nelson Peltz, paid a huge amount of money, and she herself changed into a new dress right before the dance—that was a pivotal moment. If a proper apology had been made back then, perhaps we wouldn't be where we are today."

The tension turned out to be so intense that the couple even refused to celebrate their wedding anniversary: on August 2, 2025, they held an official vow renewal at the Peltz family estate in New York.

Is There Hope for Reconciliation?

Despite the fact that last summer both families vacationed in the south of France at the same time (Brooklyn was staying on Sir Elton John's yacht in Cassis, while David and Victoria with their younger children were nearby), their paths never crossed. Currently, communication between the parties is practically destroyed.

"From Brooklyn's perspective, the split is total," the book's author notes. "Victoria and David still maintain the view that they didn't do anything wrong. Until that changes on either side, there is no prospect of reconciliation."

Experts call Sir Elton John—a close family friend and Brooklyn's godfather—the main hope for saving the family. According to Boshoff, figures like him, respected by both sides, could eventually act as peacemakers, especially now that matters have escalated to communicating through lawyers.

How the Scandal Affected the Beckham Empire

Despite the family drama, David and Victoria's positions on the global stage are as strong as ever.

  • David Beckham recently achieved billionaire status, becoming the first British athlete to reach this milestone, and was also awarded a knighthood by the King.

  • The couple itself, according to insiders, has only grown closer amidst this crisis, demonstrating incredible resilience and dignity while remaining silent in the press.

  • Victoria's business projects are thriving, and her younger children—Romeo, Cruz, and Harper—are actively developing their own careers in fashion and show business.

Brooklyn, on the other hand, faces criticism for his media moves (including a recent controversial ad for a delivery service). However, despite harsh statements about the "falseness" of the family brand, the story of the Beckham clan continues to be a major topic of discussion for millions of fans around the world.
